West Linn: West Linn is a diverse
city with a way of life that has brought people here since Robert
Moore bought the first 1,000 acres in the 1840s. With a rugged beauty
that climbs from sea level at the Willamette River to the soaring
views of the area's luxury hilltop homes, West Linn is home to 23.090
residents.
With Portland just eight miles to the north, many who live here make
their living outside the city limits. Called the "City of Hills, Trees
and Rivers," West Linn could also be called a city of
neighborhoods--from the historic Willamette district with its
pioneer-era dwellings to the contemporary architecture of newer
settlements nestled in wooded highlands.
Among West Linn's special assets are its dedicated parks and open
spaces, where residents and visitors can stroll among Douglas firs and
take in panoramic views of the Willamette and West Linn rivers, with
Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens and the Cascade range as a
backdrop. West Linn's residents are among the best educated in Oregon,
and earn incomes well above the state average.
Civic pride and a strong volunteer base benefit both the city
government and the school district. The Old Fashioned Fair, a
50-year-old tradition held every July, brings the community together
in a three-day celebration. West Linn is just 20 minutes from the
Portland International Airport. Access to Portland is via Highway 43
(Willamette Drive) and Interstate 205.
