Eastmoreland was originally a real estate
holding of the Ladd Estate Company The name Moreland was derived from a
prominent county judge and successful real estate develop, Julius Caesar
Moreland. Eastmoreland was part Ladd's "Crystal Springs Farm," which
covered approximately 500 acres. Today, the "farm" is bordered by
Eastmoreland Golf Course, Reed College campus, and the Rhododendron
Gardens. Running through the middle of the neighborhood is Reed College
Place, a park-like street .on which the award-winning Duniway Grade School
is located. The neighborhood is a very desirable area, not only because of
its stately well-kept homes, but also because of ifs close proximity to
downtown and strong community pride.
